Norway Urges Iran’s Engagement in Regional Initiatives

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Highlighting the Islamic Republic’s significant role in the region, the foreign minister of Norway stressed the need for Iran’s involvement in regional initiatives.

In a meeting with her Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the 52nd regular session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Anniken Huitfeldt underscored the significance and the vital role of Iran in the region.

She also emphasized the importance of Iran’s participation and engagement in regional initiatives.

Huitfeldt further outlined her country’s views about a series of issues of mutual interest.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian welcomed the idea of closer political consultations between Tehran and Oslo.

Deploring the “unconstructive stances and miscalculations” of certain European governments in relation to the recent riots in Iran and decrying the incorrect remarks from Norway’s parliament president, Amirabdollahian stated, “We believe that dialogue could clear up misunderstandings.”

On the conflict in Ukraine, the Iranian foreign minister reiterated Tehran’s opposition to the expansion of NATO and continuation of war in Ukraine, stressing that Iran supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

The two senior diplomats agreed on the continuation of consultations and political talks between Iran and Norway.
