The death toll from the coronavirus infection in Iran exceeded 86,000 on Monday as the number of the new cases tested positive and the hospital admissions has also soared amid the fifth wave of the pandemic.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Monday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 86,041, saying the disease has taken the lives of 182 patients over the past 24 hours.
She also noted that at least 3,041,541 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.
The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has surpassed 3,394,200 following the detection of 20,829 new cases since Sunday noon, the spokeswoman added.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,790 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
The spokeswoman also said more than 24.59 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 4.9 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 187 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.05 million.
