Bali Wins Iran’s Fifth Gold at 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Greco-Roman wrestler Mehdi Bali won Iran’s fifth gold medal in the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships on Monday.

Bali defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Uzur Dzhuzupbekov 7-4 in 97kg final bout.

Iranian wrestlers Pouya Dadmarz in 55kg, Iman Mohammadi in 63kg, Nasser Alizadeh in 87kg and Amin Mirzazadeh in 130kg had already won four gold medals in the competition.

Kavianinejad in 77kg and Sajad Imentalab in 72kg claimed two silvers, while Alireza Mohmadi won a bronze in 82kg.

The Championships started on April 9 in Astana, Kazakhstan and will run until April 14.

The six-day event will determine the seeds for the World Championships to be held in mid-September in Serbia. The World Championships, consequently, will serve as the qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
