UN Highlights Iran’s Constructive Role in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The special representative of the Secretary General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq lauded the constructive role that Iran plays in the Arab country.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the UN special representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, held a meeting in Tehran on Sunday.

The top Iranian diplomat was briefed by Hennis-Plasschaert on the latest situation and developments in Iraq.

Hennis-Plasschaert explained her views on the internal and regional developments related to Iraq.

She also highlighted the constructive role of Iran in the West Asian country.

For his part, Amirabdollahian pointed to the intertwined and solid relationship between Tehran and Baghdad.

He noted that the strong and extensive ties between the two neighbors are based on people’s relations and comprehensive official cooperation.

He added that in addition to the effects of such bilateral relations on Iran and Iraq, they benefit stability, development and sustainable security in the region.

The Iranian minister emphasized the importance of Iraq’s regional role, pointing to the constructive and excellent relations between the two countries.

Amirabdollahian also touched upon the importance of the security of the borders between Iran and Iraq and emphasized the strict implementation of the security agreements between the two countries.
