Putin Accuses Western Nations of Disrupting Global Economic Framework

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday said Western countries are undermining the existing global economic framework they helped build.

He also emphasized that many nations are opposed to this destructive trend.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin noted that the international economic landscape is undergoing changes due to the actions of some Western nations who are dismantling financial, trade, and economic relations.

However, Putin highlighted that this destructive behavior coincides with the expansion of genuine business cooperation among nations worldwide that resist external pressures and prioritize their own national interests. He stressed that these nations focus on long-term benefits for their populations rather than temporary political events.

This approach, Putin explained, is leading to the emergence of a new international model that is not defined by Western standards and serves all of humanity, contributing to a developing multipolar world.

Putin’s remarks follow Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s recent statement that the BRICS economic group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are gaining international influence as many nations seek alternatives to Western-dominated international institutions that fail to address their concerns.

Lavrov had also noted that approximately one in four countries globally faces some form of sanctions from the US or European nations, highlighting the West’s use of the global economy for coercion and punishment.

Western countries, especially amid the Ukraine conflict, imposed stringent sanctions on Russia, including the freezing of Russian gold and foreign exchange reserves amounting to around $600 billion, a move Moscow condemned as theft.
