President Commends Iran Greco-Roman U-17 Team for Winning World Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated the country’s U-17 Greco-Roman team for winning the title of the 2023 U-17 World Wrestling Championships.

“I congratulate the champion-loving people of Iran on the honor and championship of our country’s national youth wrestling team in the world championships of Turkey and the hoisting of the holy flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said in a message.

Raisi added that, undoubtedly, the continuous success of Iranian youth in various international competitions shows the talent and capabilities of the children of this border and region, and it is appropriate to witness their continued success in other sport fields with increased support.

“I am sincerely grateful to all the wrestlers with zeal, coaches and everyone involved in this team and I wish them all more and more success,” the Iranian president added, according to IRNA.

The Iranian Greco-Roman team claimed the title of the 2023 U-17 World Wrestling Championships on Wednesday.

Payam Ahmadi in 49kg and Ahmad Reza Mohammadian in 71kg won a gold and a silver medal respectively.

Alireza Amiri in 45kg and Amir Hossein Abdevali in 110kg also seized two bronze medals.

Iran won the title with 113 points, with Azerbaijan finishing a close second with 108 points. Georgia secured the third spot with 96 points.

The 2023 U-17 World Wrestling Championships started on July 31 in Istanbul, Turkey.
