Iran Ready to Help Ease Tensions between Azerbaijan, Armenia: Roads Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is ready to mediate and resolve the tensions between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the minister of roads and urban development said.

Mehrdad Bazrpash, who is the chairman of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission, in a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev on Wednesday, stressed the need for respecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other regional countries.

He added that Iran opposes foreign interference in the region.

“We believe that problems facing the regional countries should be settled by the regional countries as interference of foreigners will exacerbate the existing problems.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort to help resolve the tensions between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Bazrpash highlighted.

He further expressed his satisfaction with the trend of physical progress of the joint projects between the two countries, including the Aghband bridge, border terminal and Khoda Afarin Dam and added that he has ordered subsidiary companies of the ministry to help the acceleration of a part of these projects.

Also, a branch office of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) will be deployed at Astara Border Terminal to pursue and resolve the existing problems and challenges, the roads minister underlined.

The Azeri deputy prime minister, for his part, said that the amicable relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have boomed after several bilateral meetings held previously.

Mustafayef also invited Bazrpash to visit the Republic of Azerbaijan in October.
