TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker unveiled plans for Iran and Bahrain to reopen their embassies in Manama and Tehran.

A member of an Iranian parliamentary delegation that traveled to Bahrain recently to attend the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) said she has held talks with the chairman of the Bahraini National Assembly about the revival of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

She said the top Bahraini lawmaker has also stressed the need to act more strongly in relation to regional issues with closer coordination between Bahrain and Iran.

In comments on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the reconciliation with Saudi Arabia would have many regional positive impacts, including on the ties between Iran and other countries, raising the possibility of improvement of relations between Iran and Bahrain.

Last Friday, Saudi Arabia, Iran and China issued a joint tripartite statement, in which the three countries announced that Iran and Saudi Arabia had signed an agreement to resume bilateral relations. The statement indicated that the agreement was signed after several days of negotiations between the head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council and his Saudi counterpart in Beijing.
