Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Sunday expressed Iran’s readiness to contribute to the regional initiatives for Afghanistan under the aegis of the UN.

He made the comments in a meeting with Feridun Sinirlioglu, who acts as the UN Secretary General’s Special Coordinator, Independent Assessment Mandated by Security Council Resolution 2679.

Calling for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism in that country, Amirabdollahian stressed the need to support the regional initiatives, especially the framework of neighbors, to help resolve the challenges faced by Afghans.

“Afghanistan needs urgent solutions, and if the international community does not pay serious attention to the security challenges resulting from the moves of terrorist groups in that country, its negative consequences will plague the region and the world,” the top Iranian diplomat warned.

For his part, Sinirlioglu reaffirmed the UN’s determination to support the regional initiatives for Afghanistan, back the framework of neighbors, and help establish an inclusive government in that country.

The Honorable President Trump:

As more than 190 Million people along with Iranians from nineteen different nations around the world celebrate the first day of Spring with the sun illuminating directly over the equator on equinox, majestically, evenly divided between North and South Hemispheres; please accept our sincerest congratulations and warm wishes to you and your great nation, the people of America, for Nowruz 2019. During the past three years you have spoken directly to Iranians and for that you have been nicknamed President of Hearts and Trump the Lion Heart.

Iranians applaud you and your administration, for promises kept and tireless work to Make America Great Again. Meanwhile painfully witnessing our beloved Iran fallen as a Failed State into hands of occupying regime ravaging Iranians’ resources. Indeed, Iranians greatly appreciate Secretary Pompeo’s remarkable 48page report “Outlaw Regime” thoroughly enlisting Islamic Republic’s Forty Years of Failure resume.

Occupying apartheid regime continues ruthless oppression of innocent civilians, least of which is to limit access to internet. Despite, Iranians have showed great courage through civil disobedience in many ways and have tried to uprise against the evil of theocratic kleptocracy of the Islamic Republic.

Only a brief glance at Islamic Republic’s constitution and motto to rule the “Islamic world” is testimony to violating international treaties. In light of escalating Islamic extremism that caused nearly 84,000 deaths, only in 2017,spreading hate and division, gruesome terror attacks have now reached yet another continent. Iranians want an end to Islamic Republic occupying regime destructive behavior that is bloodied with many nations along with the brave American Soldiers’ blood who courageously sacrificed their lives to help the struggling Afghan and Iraqi people in the fight against radical Islamic terrorism.

Iranians forewarn global stability and security is dependent on empowering Iranians to end Islamic Republic Failed State through Iranians’ own devices. Prior to 1979, allUnited States Presidents allied with Iran’s Constitution 1906 allowing our nations to be best allies and demonstrate exemplary relations model for all nations, while maintaining peace and stability for the longest period in current world history.

After many years of research and opposition struggle with extremely complicated and difficult circumstances working under Islamic Republic reign of terror, the least costly and best route has always been too close to see. Most important and integral part of this research is to be aligned with legalities, Iranian culture while reflecting Iranians’voices from inside Iran as well as Iranians’ uprising since December 2017.

Here, we come forth with a Real Solution to declare Iran’s Constitution 1906 as a valid and legal document with potential to be updated in language and form like any other constitution. Iran’s Constitution 1906 is woven intricately into Iranians’ pride and history and will be the least costly and best path to Secular Democracy for Iran. We believe through utilizing Constitution 1906, a government in exile from Iranians inside Iran and abroad can be formed formally to fill the vacuum of the Failed State. When in Iran, a Free and Fair election for a Constitutional Parliament will be held to update the Constitution to secular democracy. Subsequently, a referendum will decide the form of the government by Iranians for Iran.

As past is prologue, Iranians have been the best allies of the Free World and will ensure stability of the most volatile region of the globe only if allowed trusted representationwith their own devices. With great aspirations, Iranians welcome Nowruz 2019 and wish to embrace peace with all free and freedom loving nations, again.

Respectfully,

Author: Mr. Kissinger served as secretary of state and national security adviser in the Nixon and Ford administrations.

The U.S. must protect its citizens from disease while starting the urgent work of planning for a new epoch.

The surreal atmosphere of the Covid-19 pandemic calls to mind how I felt as a young man in the 84th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge. Now, as in late 1944, there is a sense of inchoate danger, aimed not at any particular person, but striking randomly and with devastation. But there is an important difference between that faraway time and ours. American endurance then was fortified by an ultimate national purpose. Now, in a divided country, efficient and farsighted government is necessary to overcome obstacles unprecedented in magnitude and global scope. Sustaining the public trust is crucial to social solidarity, to the relation of societies with each other, and to international peace and stability.

Nations cohere and flourish on the belief that their institutions can foresee calamity, arrest its impact and restore stability. When the Covid-19 pandemic is over, many countries’ institutions will be perceived as having failed. Whether this judgment is objectively fair is irrelevant. The reality is the world will never be the same after the coronavirus. To argue now about the past only makes it harder to do what has to be done.

The coronavirus has struck with unprecedented scale and ferocity. Its spread is exponential: U.S. cases are doubling every fifth day. At this writing, there is no cure. Medical supplies are insufficient to cope with the widening waves of cases. Intensive-care units are on the verge, and beyond, of being overwhelmed. Testing is inadequate to the task of identifying the extent of infection, much less reversing its spread. A successful vaccine could be 12 to 18 months away.

The U.S. administration has done a solid job in avoiding immediate catastrophe. The ultimate test will be whether the virus’s spread can be arrested and then reversed in a manner and at a scale that maintains public confidence in Americans’ ability to govern themselves. The crisis effort, however vast and necessary, must not crowd out the urgent task of launching a parallel enterprise for the transition to the post-coronavirus order.

Leaders are dealing with the crisis on a largely national basis, but the virus’s society-dissolving effects do not recognize borders. While the assault on human health will—hopefully—be temporary, the political and economic upheaval it has unleashed could last for generations. No country, not even the U.S., can in a purely national effort overcome the virus. Addressing the necessities of the moment must ultimately be coupled with a global collaborative vision and program. If we cannot do both in tandem, we will face the worst of each.

Drawing lessons from the development of the Marshall Plan and the Manhattan Project, the U.S. is obliged to undertake a major effort in three domains. First, shore up global resilience to infectious disease. Triumphs of medical science like the polio vaccine and the eradication of smallpox, or the emerging statistical-technical marvel of medical diagnosis through artificial intelligence, have lulled us into a dangerous complacency. We need to develop new techniques and technologies for infection control and commensurate vaccines across large populations. Cities, states and regions must consistently prepare to protect their people from pandemics through stockpiling, cooperative planning and exploration at the frontiers of science.

Second, strive to heal the wounds to the world economy. Global leaders have learned important lessons from the 2008 financial crisis. The current economic crisis is more complex: The contraction unleashed by the coronavirus is, in its speed and global scale, unlike anything ever known in history. And necessary public-health measures such as social distancing and closing schools and businesses are contributing to the economic pain. Programs should also seek to ameliorate the effects of impending chaos on the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Third, safeguard the principles of the liberal world order. The founding legend of modern government is a walled city protected by powerful rulers, sometimes despotic, other times benevolent, yet always strong enough to protect the people from an external enemy. Enlightenment thinkers reframed this concept, arguing that the purpose of the legitimate state is to provide for the fundamental needs of the people: security, order, economic well-being, and justice. Individuals cannot secure these things on their own. The pandemic has prompted an anachronism, a revival of the walled city in an age when prosperity depends on global trade and movement of people.

The world’s democracies need to defend and sustain their Enlightenment values. A global retreat from balancing power with legitimacy will cause the social contract to disintegrate both domestically and internationally. Yet this millennial issue of legitimacy and power cannot be settled simultaneously with the effort to overcome the Covid-19 plague. Restraint is necessary on all sides—in both domestic politics and international diplomacy. Priorities must be established.

We went on from the Battle of the Bulge into a world of growing prosperity and enhanced human dignity. Now, we live an epochal period. The historic challenge for leaders is to manage the crisis while building the future. Failure could set the world on fire.

There have been many victims of the Islamic regime. Untold numbers of people have been persecuted, arrested, tortured, and killed. Innocent people have been targeted for their faith, their race, their sexuality, their politics, and any number of other characteristics. But from its very outset, this regime has had no greater focus and target than Iran’s women. Khomeini’s earliest writings were diatribes against the progress for women that my grandfather ushered in. Khomeini never got over the equality that Iranian women had. His mission was to destroy it and for forty-one years, his regime has looked to silence Iranian women. It will never succeed.

Iranian women have always been lionesses who have stood up for their rights and refused to stay silent in the face of oppression wherever they see it. This year has served as a strong reminder of the resilience and strength of Iranian women and today, on International Women’s Day, I want to honor their sacrifices and thank them for their leadership. These women are heroes.

For years, Atena Daemi has languished in Evin prison. Her “crime” was advocating for women and children’s rights. In jail, she has been denied proper medical treatment. Despite this unjust treatment she has bravely persisted in her activism. She has written from prison that her struggle for justice for Iran’s women and other oppressed groups will not cease.

After losing her son, Mostafa KarimBeigi, in the 2009 protests Shahnaz Akmali used her pain and grief as fuel for action. She has rallied other mothers whose children have been murdered by the regime and has been a source of companionship and solace for them. Despite imprisonment and threats, she has never let up the fight.

After saying goodbye to her friends at her Quran study class, Fatemeh Sepehri was arrested for being a signatory of the “14-person letter” calling for an end to the regime’s gender apartheid and to the regime itself. Today, she remains imprisoned for having had the bravery to stand up for the rights of all Iranian women.

Having lost her son Sattar Beheshti in a regime torture cell, Gohar Eshghi has become a mother to so many more grieving families who share in her pain of a child stolen far too early. She has shown the nation what true courage and unmatched empathy look like.

These are the brave women whose names we know. Yet there are too many, thousands, of other mothers, sisters, and daughters struggling whose names we do not. These women whose loved ones were slain in the Aban (October) -month massacre have kept on in silence. Their pain and anger are unimaginable and their bravery to continue the fight has empowered us all.

These women should never have had to be in this position. I wish they weren’t. I can only imagine that they wish the same. But they have taken the pain and used it to try to end our national tragedy, to end this gender apartheid. They are our nation’s heroines and on International Women’s Day they should know that the Iranian people look to them for inspiration.

We see this remarkable strength in Iranian women everywhere. On my mother’s travels to Greece to meet with Iranian refugees she met with women who had been through unthinkable tragedy. She met women who had survived abuse, mental health struggles, drug addiction, and so much else. They sat, talked, laughed, and cried together as Iranian women. The stories my mother shares with me from these women are astounding and the strength they possess to keep standing is remarkable.

To me, this show’s the regime’s abject failure. They have tried to silence Iranian women for four decades. But Iranian women of all stripes have only become stronger and more united in their demand for justice, equality and freedom. One day soon in tomorrow’s free Iran we will celebrate this great day, together, across Iran and honor the immense bravery and achievements of Iranian women. That day is not far.

The Iran-Saudi conflict has entered a new phase, with the real threat of a full-scaleconflict. The situations in Iraq and Libya will also suffer from the instability created by this stand of. And despite this instability, Saudi Arabia’s important ally, the United States, has not been fully drawn into the conflict. U.S. analysts and policy makers don’t seem to understand that this stance is a remarkable maneuver by Trump jumping over Mullahs’ war trap- so desperate to survive USA Maximum Pressure Campaign.

Western and Arab media sources have published several stories recently about the growing opposition to the Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman inside the Al Saud Royal Family. The Crown Prince’s future is to be decided in the next couple of months, so very little time remains for opposition players. After the Yemen War quagmire and the damage done in Abqaiq, some royals will undoubtedly try to weaken MBS position. The main issue currently is that here is no real contender available, as most Saudis are still supportive of MBS. The old guard, such as the brother of King Salman, prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz , are not favored by the young. Still, MBS has to speed up his passion projects as success is everything when it comes to winning power in Riyadh.

It is not surprising that the recent positive media reports emerging from Saudi Arabia come just before the Davos in the Desert or FII2019 meeting is held. A possible Aramco IPO presentation at FII2019, followed by a 1% listing at the Saudi Tadawul, would put MBS firmly back in the spotlight and weaken any opposition. With the current stalemate in the region, more than 4000 investment funds, sovereign wealth funds and corporations will be sitting in the conference halls of the Ritz, willing to hand over the much needed cash and multibillion projects to solidify MBS’ position.

Open support for MBS will be in place very soon, with Russian president Vladimir Putin expected to head to Riyadh very soon. Putin is openly a big supporter of the crown prince’s strategy and dreams. Russian sovereign wealth fund RDIF and others are flocking to Riyadh’s hotels as further evidence of Russian support. Moscow appears set to capitalize on Washington’s hands off response to the recent attacks in Saudi Arabia, and MBS will be eager to take advantage. Along with USA Maximum Pressure Campaign against Islamic Republic, a closer Saudi-Russian relationship will surely end up choke mullahs more, as the Islamic Republic is heavily dependent on Moscow’s support.

In executing due diligence, for continuity of the rule of the law in Iran as mandated by Iran’s Constitution 1906 and its progressive referendum of 1963, we condemn Khomeinist Regime 1979 take over in Iran by lies and deceit per regime’s own confessionals and revealed documents that have severed Iran’s membership to the United Nation and rendered it, null and void in accordance to the basic goals of the UN Charter listed as follows:

(1) respect for human rights,

(2) faith in the dignity and value of the human as persons,

(3) equality between men and women,

(4) the pursuit of regional and global peace and security,

the Islamic Republic presence in the United Nations is in full conflict with the purposes and spirit of the United Nations Charter. Many articles of the Islamic Republic’s own Constitution have fundamental hostility against global peace and stability. This list includes but not limited to:

(1) blatant violation of the rights of men and women and the execution of children

(2) Replacing the Ummah instead of the Nation to forge political unity in the Islamic world

(3) Establishing a military camps training to export revolution to other countries

(4) Interfering in the affairs of other countries to help fight for the rights of the oppressed of the world and wipe out the infidels from

(5) The rule of the absolute guardianship of the Islamic jurisprudence and the Imam & global ummah

(6) God’s sovereignty over the world and man rather than the sovereignty of the nation

(7) Revelation of Allah as ruler of nations

(8) Implanting morality troops to the region and establishing medieval “Inquisition”

Therefore, the Council for Iran’s Constitution 1906 and its progressive referendum of 1963 task force hereby declare the Islamic Republic and its representatives to the United Nations illegitimate. The General Assembly and the Human Rights Committee, have made repeated resolutions against Islamic Republic Regime in Iran. This Task Force would like to high light in particular the UN Security Council Resolutions Nos. 1373; 1377; 1452; 1535 that specifically and strongly declare Islamic Republic as threat to regional and international peace and security arising from terrorist acts and its continuing violations of the human rights.

in accordance with:

Article 6 of the Charter, which provides “any member of the United Nations in violation of The principles laid down in this Charter insist It may be dismissed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council.

Lack of compliance with the legal requirements as grounds for the expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the United Nations.

The expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the organization is the most important step to Free Iran and maintain global peace and security.

We calling for immediate enforcement of Iran’s Constitution 1906 and its progressive referendum of 1963 to empower Iranians to reclaim Iran by their own devices and to restore secular democratic government based on the Charter of Human Rights.

In the end this task force Reminds all UN members and all that Iran’s constitution 1906 is the pillar of Iranian national unity and solidarity.

September 1, 2019

▪ Both President George W Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair told me at different times that they had identified “men with whom we can work” in Tehran and that the key to success was getting rid of Khamenei and his “hardliners.”

▪ [W]hether we like it or not, it is Khamenei, and not Rafsanjani, Khatami or Rouhani, who set the tune in the Islamic Republic.

▪ Thus if Trump, or anyone else, wish to make a deal with the present regime in Tehran, the man they should talk to is Khamenei, not Rouhani, an actor playing the president.

▪ [T]he two are, in fact, just one creature in two disguises, a witch bent on doing mischief.

▪ Trump has been warned!

If President Donald Trump, or anyone else, wish to make a deal with the present regime in Tehran, the man they should talk to is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (left), not Hassan Rouhani (right), an actor playing the president.

For a few hours last weekend, political circles in Tehran were seized with speculative fever regarding a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and the Islamic Republic’s President Hassan Rouhani. Trump had announced in Biarritz, where the G7’s farcical summit was held, that he would be prepared to meet the Iranian mullah and believed that could happen soon. For his part, Rouhani went on TV to declare readiness to meet “anyone”, with no ifs and buts.

One “reformist” analyst phoned me in the middle of night Paris time to “inform” me that, with help from Trump, his faction was about to win a decisive victory over the “hardline” faction led by Supreme Guide Ali Khamenei.

In his narrative, Rouhani would meet Trump in September when both are to attend the United Nations’ General Assembly in New York. They would establish a “roadmap” leading to an agreement incorporating the Obama “nuke deal” plus additional demands by Trump. That, in turn, would lead to a lifting of US sanctions, saving the Iranian economy from a meltdown.

The “miracle” would coincide with the next general election in Iran and a secure landslide victory for “reformists”. That, in turn, would enable them to press for Khamenei’s retirement and replacement by Rouhani, while Muhammad-Javad Zarif, the “heroic” foreign minister, throws his hat, since he has no turban, into the ring for the presidency. With Khamenei and his “Russophile” faction eliminated, the “New York Boys” would put Iran on a new trajectory as the United States’ key partner in the Middle East.

What was remarkable in that narrative was how stale it was.

Weeks after the mullahs seized power, the Carter administration in Washington identified Mehdi Bazargan, Khomeini’s first prime minister, as “the man with whom we can work.”

After he was kicked out, attention was turned to more ephemeral figures such as Ayatollah Muhammad Beheshti, Abol-Hasaan Banisadr and Sadeq Ghotbzadeh who were supposed to lead Iran out of its revolutionary phase into normality, whatever that meant.

With Ayatollah Khomeini, supposedly too old to last long, these were the men who would shape Iran’s Thermidor, emerging from the reign of terror. Fariba Adelkhah, then a young researcher in Paris and later an ardent apologist for the Islamic Republic, even wrote a book bearing the title “Iranian Thermidor”. (She is now a hostage in Tehran held by the very men she had so passionately defended in the French media.)

Over the years, we heard similar analyses from the Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani faction in the 1980s, the Muhammad Khatami circle in the1990, and the Larijani brothers in 2004. Both President George W Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair told me at different times that they had identified “men with whom we can work” in Tehran and that the key to success was getting rid of Khamenei and his “hardliners.”

At one point, the Reagan administration saw Rafsanjani, a wily mullah-cum-businessman, as the Iranian version of Deng Xiaoping. Tony Blair, no doubt under Jack Straw’s influence, saw Khatami, a middling mullah and a wannabe intellectual, as the “Iranian Gorbachev”.

As early as 2004, both the British and the French saw Rouhani as the man capable of delivering what Rafsanjani and Khatami had promised but failed to deliver. The horse on which John Kerry put his bet was Muhammad-Javad Zarif, whose team of “New York Boys” provided Rouhani with a “liberal” varnish.

Western analysts and their imitators inside Iran missed two crucial points.

The first was that, like most revolutionary regimes, the Khomeinist outfit had no mechanism for reform in the direction desired by the Iranian middle classes and the Western powers. Thus, even if its leaders tried to introduce reforms they would be doomed to failure. Lenin tried that in the 1920s with his New Economic Policy (NEP) that, instead of liberalizing the Soviet system, produced Josef Stalin. Mao Zedong’s reform project, known as “The 100 Flowers,” morphed into the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, millions of deaths and further hardening of the Communist regime. Khomeini himself attempted a similar move with his 8-Points reform project in 1981, leading to mass executions in 1988. In the Islamic Republic, the number of executions and political prisoners has always risen under “reformist” presidents such as Khatami and Rouhani.

The second point Western powers ignore is that Iranians today are divided into two broad camps, obviously with subdivisions within each camp. One camp consists of those, perhaps even a majority today, who are disillusioned with the Islamic Revolution and seek ways of closing its chapter as soon as possible. The idea of “change within the regime” appeals to some among them but has never offered a credible political platform from which to attempt a seizure of power within the regime.

In the second camp, we find all those who, for different reasons, are still committed to the Khomeinist Revolution. In that camp the “hardliners” have been and, I believe remain, in a majority. Thus, whether we like it or not, it is Khamenei, and not Rafsanjani, Khatami or Rouhani, who set the tune in the Islamic Republic. In fact, each time Western powers made a deal with the Islamic Republic it was ultimately with Khomeini and, after him, Khamenei. It was Khomeini who drunk the “poison chalice” by ending the war with Iraq, not Rafsanjani who played “strongman” at the time.

The Obama “nuke deal” started with negotiations that Khamenei ordered before Rouhani became president. The result, the JCPOA (Barjam in Persian), was adopted after Khamenei gave his tacit consent.

Thus if Trump, or anyone else, wish to make a deal with the present regime in Tehran, the man they should talk to is Khamenei, not Rouhani, an actor playing the president. On Tuesday, that fact was demonstrated by Khamenei ordering Rouhani to eat humble pie and publicly recant on his boast about a summit with Trump.

The “hardline vs. moderate” comedy played in Tehran reminds me of the French Opera Buffa in which two seductive girls adopt opposite profiles. “No-no-Nanette” always says no to admirers but she ends up in bed with all of them. In contrast, “Yes-yes Yolanda” offers tantalizing “yes” but never goes the whole way. In the end, we find out that the two are, in fact, just one creature in two disguises, a witch bent on doing mischief.

Trump has been warned!

Amir Taheri was the executive editor-in-chief of the daily Kayhan in Iran from 1972 to 1979. He has worked at or written for innumerable publications, published eleven books, and has been a columnist for Asharq Al-Awsat since 1987. He is the Chairman of Gatestone Europe.
