Putin made the remarks during a meeting with chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, in Moscow on Tuesday.

“President Raeisi’s death is a great loss, first and foremost for Iran and its people. He was a very reliable partner, a direct, self-confident man, who was motivated by national interests,” Putin said.

He also described the late Iranian president as “a man of his word,” adding that “if we agreed on something with him, we could always be sure that those agreements would be fulfilled.”

Putin further noted that Moscow is ready to continue cooperation with Iran just like under Raeisi’s administration, pledging to do his best to ensure the continuation and development of Russian-Iranian relations in the same manner.

Putin announced Russia’s readiness to help Iran investigate the causes of the copter crash that killed President Raeisi and his accompanying delegation.

The Russian president further asked Volodin, who will travel to Tehran to attend the president’s funeral ceremony on Wednesday, to convey his heartfelt condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

In an earlier message of condolence, Putin had called Raeisi a true friend who made serious efforts to develop the level of strategic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.

Raeisi was martyred alongside his accompanying delegation, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian after their helicopter crashed in the Dizmar forest in East Azarbaijan Province on Sunday.

Rescuers found the wreckage of the helicopter early on Monday after hours of extensive search which involved more than 70 teams.

President Raeisi was returning from a location on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he inaugurated a dam with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.

Following the tragic loss, world leaders sent condolence messages to the people of Iran.

Many countries, the neighboring states in particular, are observing days of mourning to honor the late president and those accompanying him.

In Iran, millions of mourners are gathering to honor the martyrs in towns and cities nationwide.

President Raeisi will be buried in his birthplace, the holy city of Mashhad, on Thursday.

The joint letter, signed by the foreign ministers of 13 countries, including major economies and democracies, was sent to the Israeli cabinet on Wednesday, also demanding it allow unhindered humanitarian access to the besieged Palestinian territory, Anadolu reported.

It was signed by G7 nations Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and the UK, as well as Australia, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, and Sweden.

In the four-page letter, the ministers warned against a large-scale military offensive on Rafah, stressing that this would have “catastrophic” consequences for civilians.

They also underlined that the Israeli cabinet must do everything in its power to alleviate the devastating and worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The ministers demanded that Israel open all border crossings, including the Rafah crossing, to ensure the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians.

The letter also asked Israeli authorities to allow access to international aid organizations, as well as the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, ensure the safety of aid workers and international personnel, and grant sufficient permits for local truck drivers.

“We resolutely condemn the September 24 attack on the embassy of Cuba in the United States at which two Molotov cocktails were reportedly thrown,” the Russian diplomat said.

“(The attack) must not be left unpunished and those responsible for it should be punished heavily,” Zakharova said, as she urged Washington to conduct a thorough probe into the incident as soon as possible, TASS reported.

According to Zakharova, the latest incident is not the first such crime against the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington which came amid what she said was “the atmosphere of ongoing threats against the government of the Island of Freedom.”

“Once again we call on the host country to unconditionally ensure the security of foreign diplomatic missions on its territory in strict compliance with international obligations.
This escalation follows tensions surrounding the killing of a Sikh separatist earlier this year, according to Al Jazeera.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed concerns about the interference of Canadian diplomats in its internal matters and their involvement in activities deemed anti-India. The dispute has strained relations, leading to disrupted trade talks and the cancellation of a planned Canadian trade mission to India.

Protests by pro-Sikh independence groups in Canada have further complicated matters and raised concerns within the Indian government.

Ottawa previously stated it was actively investigating credible allegations linking Indian government agents to the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The murder occurred in British Columbia on June 18 while Nijjar was reportedly organizing an unofficial referendum in India for an independent Sikh nation.

India dismissed these allegations as “absurd and motivated” and called for legal action against anti-Indian elements operating from Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged India to cooperate in the investigation, emphasizing that foreign government involvement in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is unacceptable.

The Indian government countered these allegations, highlighting Khalistani terrorists and extremists who have found shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly confirmed the expulsion of a top Indian diplomat, identified as the head of Indian intelligence in Canada, in response to the situation.

The Khalistan movement, advocating for an independent Sikh homeland, remains banned in India. While the movement has limited political support within India, it has a presence in countries like Canada and the United Kingdom, which host a significant Sikh diaspora.

India has historically pursued Sikh separatists, and the Modi government has elevated the Khalistani threat as a national security concern. The controversy surrounding the movement has escalated under Modi’s administration.

The 1984 storming of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the epicenter of Sikhism, by Indian forces to eliminate Sikh separatists led to a significant loss of life and triggered anti-Sikh riots across northern India.

Modi’s government has intensified its pursuit of Sikh separatists, and the movement’s influence remains a contentious issue.

In his reply to a letter from former pilot Harry Moyer and pilot gunner Mel McMullen, Xi said the people of China and the United States had shared the same enemy in their fight against Japan and had forged a “profound” friendship, according to Chinese state media on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

“Looking to the future, China and the United States, as two major countries, bear more important responsibilities for world peace, stability and development,” Xi said.

“They should and must achieve mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.”

His call for stable and peaceful ties followed a series of meetings and talks between US and Chinese officials in recent months aimed at reducing tensions and restoring channels of communication including contact between their militaries.

The American Volunteer Group, known as the Flying Tigers, was a fighter group, comprising former US pilots hired by the Republic of China led by Chiang Kai-shek’s Kuomintang, to fight against Japan in 1941-42.

The airmen, whose planes were iconic for their shark faces, were widely known in China for their feats of bravery in the face of larger Japanese forces as they took to the skies from rural runways paved by Chinese people by hand.

“Currently, China-US relations face many difficulties and challenges,” Chinese Vice President Han Zheng told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

“The world needs stable and healthy China-US relations,” Han said.
